Dynamic Disk Pools: Delivering New Levels of Storage and Data Protection

The new RAID protection approach with the Xanadu storage array relies on larger dynamic disk pools rather than a volume group, where data is distributed across randomly selected drives in the pool. The added drives will increase disk pool capacity, with data dynamically re-distributed to maintain equilibrium. Upon disk failure, segments on other disks are read to recreate the data and a new disk is chosen to write each segment so that data distribution across disks is maintained.
