IBM Spectrum Scale V4.1.1 Advanced Edition Features

Data growth has challenged traditional storage and data management solutions. Massive amounts of data including video, audio and text files are being generated by new applications. As a result, IT and storage administrators are forced to balance traditional workloads with new workloads and data types.

IBM Spectrum Scale V4.1.1 removes data-related bottlenecks by providing parallel access to data for a number of workloads using many access methods. With all of this release’s new features, many are wondering what are available in the Advanced Edition.

Asynchronous Multi Site Disaster Recovery. IBM Spectrum Scale can ensure the survivability of data in the event of failures.  Asynchronous data updates enables sharing of data across wide area networks even if the networks are unreliable or have high latencies.  Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) are supported with a minimum RPO of 15 minutes.  New features include fail back while applications are running on the Disaster Recovery site.

Enhanced Security. (a) Files are encrypted before they are stored on disk, keys are never written to disk, but are instead managed by a standards-compliant Key Manager. (b) IBM Spectrum Scale V4.1.1 cryptographic erase is intended for fast, simple, and secure drive retirement. (c) The nistCompliance configuration variable allows the system administrator to restrict the set of available algorithms and key lengths to a subset of those approved by NIST.
