GPFS Solutions for HPC from RAID

GPFS (General Parallel File System) is widely used in HPC systems an has been employed by our team of engineers as part of an HPC solution for a wide array of clients.  Some of the reasons it’s such a popular HPC solution are that GPFS is ideal for high-performance enterprise file management. With GPFS, clients get: a highly available cluster architecture, concurrent shared disk access to a global namespace in either block level or file level, capabilities for high performance parallel workloads, massive namespace support, and more.

  1. Commercial Genomics Research Workflow Improved w/Perseus GPFS Cluster:   One of the largest private research organizations in the world contacted us to design a production grade HPC solution for its genomics research program.  We developed a compute cluster with a 1 PB Perseus GPFS software-defined storage solution and tied it into the existing network and fine-tuned the applications. Three months later, the customer asked for another custom storage solution which included a 1.5PB GPFS–based archive featuring RAID Inc.’s ARI storage arrays.
  2. Perseus GPFS Software-Defined Storage Ideal Solution for Seismic Data Storage:  One of the largest seismic research companies in the world was in the process of a tech refresh for their data storage. They tasked us to find the best solution which was, again, our Perseus system. We fine tuned it to the existing system, and fine-tuned existing networking infrastructure and compute nodes to operate optimally with Perseus. The client did a worldwide rollout, purchasing over 8 PB of storage. Eight months after the initial rollout, they purchased another 4.5 PB of storage.
  3. Major University Bioinformatics Research Program Receives NSF Grant for HPC Cluster & Storage: One of the leading university-based research programs in Bioinformatics brought in RAID, Inc. to create an optimized HPC storage solution after being awarded a grant from the NSF. We worked in tandem with the group creating the compute infrastructure to present the most scalable, dense storage solution consisting of a 1.5 PB GPFS-based HPC production storage solution, a home directory, and, a 1PB GPFS-based archive w/ARI storage arrays.
