RAID Inc's Storage Enables Motion Graphics for VJ Vello VirkhausRelease date: April 6, 2005
Virkhaus pulls his arsenal of images from his RAID Inc . Falcon 8- Bay Serial ATA storage system. “I have textures, abstract graphics, video loops and more on RAID Inc. storage,” Virkhaus explains. “I purchased the Falcon because the SATA technology was more affordable than comparable SCSI and FC disk technology, which allowed for greater amounts of data to be protected at a better price. The Falcon can handle the stress of my heavy workload, holding a library of more than 8,000 digital video loops, the speed and performance of the system is a necessity.” Virkhaus worked for the Red Hot Chili Peppers' recent tour of Europe and Japan . As he combined images of Hollywood landmarks as background for illustrations, he did his work in Photoshop and created layered, sequenced files. He put them in After Effects, made QuickTime movies, compressed them, did sequence timing and imported them into Final Cut Pro for editing. “Quickly retrieving the data from the Falcon for use in a variety of applications has never been a problem,” Virkhaus explains. “New technologies are finally here. The computers are faster and the storage can meet performance demands. All of this combined helps us to become masters of our art.” RAID Inc. is an innovator in storage solutions for today's rapidly growing digital video, imaging and publishing markets. “With rapid changes in media technology, the evolution of cross-digital platforms, the need for increased creative inspiration and cost-efficient execution, the Falcon series out performs other storage systems on the market while offering exception value and low cost, “ explains Jad Ramey , AV Sales Manager at RAID Inc. “The Falcon supports a variety of video management and graphics applications, providing high-capacity, high-bandwidth storage for use in any of today's data-intensive application environments.” Users can now maximize up to 400GB capacity per drive and 7,200 RPM to ensure fast access to data including multi-gigabyte graphic and digital image files. The Falcon is available in 8, 12 and 16 bay SATA-1 solutions as well as a 16-bay SATA-2 high performance option, the Falcon II , with burst rates over 2132mb/sec, sequential reads in RAID 5 of 400mbs/sec and writes of 380mbs/sec.
