RAID INC. EXTENDS POPULAR FALCON SERIES
New 48-Bay Falcon III Storage Device Offers Exceptional
Price, Performance and Scalability in a Small Footprint
Release Date: March 25, 2008
Methuen, MA—RAID Inc., a customer-centric
storage solutions provider specializing in custom manufacturing of leading
edge storage solutions, today announced the extension of its popular Falcon
series with the 48-bay Falcon III solution.
This compact yet powerful Fibre Channel storage device can store up to
48 terabytes of data on a single unit.
The Falcon III houses 48 SATA-2 drives in 4U of rack space,
with expansion up to 48 additional drives via a companion 4U JBOD, which
gives users a total of 96 terabytes in just 8U of space. Customers also
gain the bandwidth needed for disk-to-disk backup, archiving and other
storage-intensive applications. By leveraging SAS full duplex and point-to-point
architecture, organizations can maximize their data throughput. The Falcon
III also offers high reliability, as well as hot swappable components
for fault tolerance. With no single point of failure, two RAID controllers
per chassis, and host-based dynamic multipathing, users are assured of
continuous access to application data.
“We are pleased to be able to extend this highly
popular storage product that provides our customers with a compact design
and increased performance, while keeping power consumption low,”
stated Bob Picardi, Chief Operating Officer at RAID Incorporated. “With
the demands of the storage market driving exponential performance and
scalability needs, we wanted to deliver on a product that meets and exceeds
the industry’s expectations. The 48-Bay Falcon III is that product.“
Additional features and benefits of the 48-bay Falcon III:
• Green design: The Falcon III has
the lowest power consumption, with 50 percent more terabytes per kilowatts
of power. In addition, it offers the highest density of any nearline storage
RAID device on the market.
• Availability and flexibility: The
Falcon III combines 4Gb Fibre Channel RAID connectivity with Serial ATA
II disk drives, and Serial Attached SCSI expansion technology, offering
affordable RAID storage combined with high performance capabilities.
• Easy to manage storage and recovery:
RAID Inc.’s StorageWatch management software makes it easy to configure
and administer the Falcon III storage system. Its automated control of
individual controller’s cache, arrays and devices via a web-based
interface simplifies storage administration, while the fully functional
Command Line Interface allows for integration of array management into
existing operational procedures.
• RAID support: The Falcon III supports
RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and 50.
